Sunday
is Kids Day at Santa Barbara Eyeglass Factory
Santa Barbara Eyeglass Factory — a locally owned
and operated business — has been providing free prescription eyewear
to needy children and other disadvantaged members of the community for
nine years, and this year will have its annual Kids Day on Sunday.
Last year, more than 200 children were given free exams and glasses.
Dr. Barry Mast, who practices next to the Eyeglass Factory, will provide
the free eye exams. The children then will go next door, where volunteers
from the Santa Barbara Eyeglass Factory will assist them in selecting
their new frames, and oversee production of the glasses.
Santa also will be on hand and refreshments will be served.
“Kids Day” will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 21. The program
is geared toward children aged 13 and younger. There are no forms to
fill out; any child who needs glasses can get them. Children “don’t
need to bring anything except their little eyes,” said Aja Herman
of the Eyeglass Factory.
