'We Demand Respect'

Latinos Flex Economic Muscle With Strike And Protest

Shouting “Justice!” and “We demand respect!” thousands of Latinos rallied up State Street Dec. 12 to showcase their economic power and to protest Gov. Schwarzenegger’s repeal of a state law allowing illegal immigrants to have driver licenses.

Moms, dads, grandparents and children — opting out of shopping, working and schooling — shouted slogans and marched through downtown during lunch hour, forming a quarter-mile-long, wall-to-wall sea of faces, placards and pumping fists.
