Does “buying local” really make a difference? In addition to leaving more money in the community by keeping their profits here, local business owners also cite long-standing employees, customer service, product distinctiveness and community involvement as advantages to “buying local.”

Smaller crowds, less arrests during Fiesta

Law enforcement officials said Fiesta crowds were smaller this year than last, but peace officers stayed busy arresting drunks on the sidewalk and in vehicles during five days of revelry.

According to Lt. Michael Aspland with the Santa Barbara Police Department, 656 people were arrested during Fiesta celebrations between Wednesday and Sunday morning. That number is 31 arrests fewer than last year, which Aspland attributes to nominally smaller crowds.
