An art show on Mother’s Day weekend? Sure — if it’s at The Samarkand retirement community.

“Mom is here,’’ said Pamela Bigelow, Samarkand marketing director, with a smile.

“There are a lot of visitors on the campus,’’ agreed Frances Goodwin, the Samarkand activity director who planned the second annual show. “It’s a great way to have something to do.’’

With exhibitors limited to Samarkand residents and staff, the show also motivates a passion for art and uncovers hidden talents.

Some exhibitors never painted before coming to Samarkand, where Goodwin, an artist with a master’s degree in art therapy, has become a kind of artistic Pied Piper.
