Natural passage

With a salt marsh, the Carpinteria Creek, a seal rookery, a monarch butterfly habitat, tar seeps and tide pools, coastal Carpinteria has a lot going for it, but for years the area has been a patchwork of individual parks, formally unlinked and lacking a centerpiece.

Planners are nearly finished with modifications to the 52-acre park, gifted to Carpinteria by the Citizens for the Carpinteria Bluffs and the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, which promise to make it a focal point of the city’s coastal corridor.
